NEW BRIGHTON.

The fortnightly meeting of the New Brighton Borough Council was held on Monday. Present: —The Mayor (Mr C. H. Winny), Crs J. Ainger, G. W. Staniland, F. Kibblewhite, O. V. Bergh, A. W. Owles, C. Israelson, J. Ashley, and C. Withell. Correspondence was received fi%m the clerk of the Heathcote County Council, acklowledging the counciPs letter agreeing to pay onethird of the cost of the maintenance of the Bower Bridge, and stating that the Heathcote Council was trying to get the Waimairi County Council to fall into line, failing which it would be necessary to apply for a Commission. The Finance Committee reported the receipts for the fortnight had been £433 19/-, and the expenditure £233 10/4. It was resolved to dispense the extra hands employed by the council on casual employment from March 7. The foreman was instructed to prepare a schedule showing cost of all works completed, and to submit it to the Finance Committee. The Mayor reported that the Government was willing to pay cost of improvements to the sports ground up to £lOOl Mrs M'Callum's offer to sell to the council the swings on the beach for £5 was accepted.
