COUNTY COUNCILS.
ASHLEY. The Ashley County Council met on Thursday at Loburn; present —Messrs W. Mackintosh (chairman), Croft, Ensor, Parish, and Philpott. Mr T. R. Cresswell, headmaster of the High School, Rangioja, interviewed the council on behalf of the Rangiora technical classes. He described the technical course at the classes and at the High School, and the sources of the Technical School's revenue. In its agricultural course the Technical School did not overlap the work at the High School, he said, but specialised in wool-classing, ami would gladly send its instructor to country districts. It was agreed to make a grant of £5 shortly.
The clerk was instructed to write to the Minister of Lands to aneertain whether the middle of the river or the right bank was the boundary of the county. This question required settlement, for the reason that if the right bank were the boundary the Oxford County Council was not willing to do protective work at the south approach 6f the Ashley ford at Glentui, save at joint cost.
The allotment of income for road and bridge work for the coming year was discussed, and it was decided that pending the Government grant revenue should be contentrated on providing a new bridge over the Okuku. The repair of the main road to White Rock was authorised, a contract up to about £4OO to be called for the work. KOWAI. At last meeting of the Kowai County Council, the chairman (Mr Hale) and Mr M 'Lean reported on the result of sin interview with, Mr H. James relative to the council purchasing lot 15 for a gravel pit and widening the road at that point of the north road. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of Mr M'Lean and the surveyor, to endeavour to complete the purchase of half an acre.
