BRUTAL ASSAULT.

LABOUR DIFFERENCES. \ AUCKLAND, March 17. On Friday evening an Arfcitratoinist watersider named Nicholas Saunders, who had had a strenuous argument with a Federationist watersider, was suddenly attacked from behind in a side stret. He was knocked down by a blow with an iron bar, and was brutally kicked. His assailant escaped by dodging through the railway yard. To-day, acting on information received, two detectives proceeded to a lonely bay on Rangitoto Island, in the Hauraki Gulf, and there arrested Alfred Madigan on a charge of assaulting Saunders. Madigan was. discovered lying in the bottom of a boat, and was much surprised by the appearance of the detectives.
