INSPECTION BY GEN. GODLEY. HIGH SCHOOL CADETS. General Godley yesterday afternoon inspected the Boys' High School Cadets, when he was accompanied by Major Pinwell, Captain W. C. Finnis, and Lieutenant T. Rhodes. Lieutenant W. Hoar was commanding the parade, the contingent comprising two companies of full strength and the Bugle Band. After company, squad, physical, and arm drill had been gone through, the General briefly addressed the Cadets. He . complimented them on their turnout, and noted with pleasure that few of them were now without rifles. He hoped that before long every cadet would -be armed. The company drill was good, the arms drill was distinctly good, but in the physical drill there was room for He did not say this to them, but rather to spur them on to more vigorous effort.
During this week all company parades consist of route marching for the purpose of putting the men in good trim for the camp. Several men of the" Ist Canterbury Regiment have been evidencing, signs of foot soreness. The general cause of suffering was the fact that men wore boots much too light for the work.
The Ist Canterbury Regiment will hold a half day parade on the 28th, and carry out attack practice. _
