ON PITCAIRN ISLAND.
SHORTAGE OF BREAD.
A BARQUE INTERCEPTED. By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. (Received March 14, 8.50 a.m.) SYDNEY, March 14. The American barque Afonlaw reports that when off Pitcairn Island two boats containing 34 islanders came aboard. The islanders reported that they -were short of bread and other commodities, and obtained a supply, also some»clothing, in exchange for poultry, vegetables, and fruit. The islanders reported that all are well on Pitcairn Island. A gale destroyed the plantations some time ago, but they are now recovering from its effects.
