Hugh Dalrymple, an ex-convict, sued the Baroness von Goetz, -a. wealthy philanthropist, and tlie organiser of a farm for discharged prisoners.
Dalrymple that, he lent the Baroness money, and produced scores of the Baroness's' letters; r containing terms of endearment. •

In- order to explain certain "discrepancies in the letters^:. alleged that hiß twin brother was responsible. ' Dalrymple f s 'coutosel-- threw up his brief, and a verdict w,as returned for the defendant: The judge ordered to be impounded a hundred letters which were obvifous forgeries. .. Evidence was given that tlie Baroness had £40,000 in the bank at the time of the blackmailing of Dalrymple.
