Two ticket collectors and a porter gave evidence that they saw a man resembling Starchfield enter the Camdentown station.
. John Symons, a joiner, said he saw s>. middle-aged woman in Camdentown at 1 o 'clock, roughly dragging the deceased, whom the witness knew well. Barnes, a 'bus conductor, declared that he picked up a woman and the deceased at Mornington Crescent station. They alighted from his 'bus at Chalk Farm station about 1 o^clock.
[A seven-year-old boy was found strangled the seat of a railway carriage., at Shoreditch on January 8. He. was identified as William, the son of John Starchfield, a newsyendor, who heroically captured Stephen Titus in September, 1912, when hie was severely wounded. A sensation was caused at the ■ inquest- by Mrs Wood positively identifying; the boy's; father as the man who was leading hinpi by the hand near Camdentjpwii...'.'station. '-•'The father in-terjected:-''lt's a lie. During subsequent court proceedings the prosecution stated that the body of the! boy was under the ''beat for thi-ee > journeys : from Chalk Farm to Broad Street, and was not discovered for two hours. Cake was found in the stomach eaten half an hour_ before death. This was important," as a witness named Mrs Wood saw the boy munching similar cake. Moore, a timber'porter, stated" that he saV Starcbfieldj whom he knew previously, near the. tube station at Camdeintown on the afternoon of the murder with a curly-headed' boy. Starchfield interrupted the witness, and denied, knowing him. Mooreradded: "I said 'hello,' and nodded in' return."] "
