RICCARTON DOMAIN.

OPENING ON SATXJKDAY." The opening of the Riccarton Domain, which is to take place on Saturday, has been eagerly looked forward to for a Jong time by residents of the district. Ever since the idea of securing a domain was first mooted the Riccarton residents have shown a great dial of enthusiasm, and have contributed very freely. The opening of the ground will mark? a further step in the advancement of the district, and if only for use as a sports ground, the property is expected to be well worth the money already expended on it. That Saturday's gathering will be a distinct success there is little room for doubt, and the manner in which the people of the district have risen to the occasion is very pleasing. | Last evening a meeting of the various committees was held iii the library, Upper Riccarton, when final arrangements were made in regard to the programme of sports to be held. For the tug-of-war and relay races fine nominations have been received, and teams from the Waimairi County Council, Deny's Private Band,. City Abattoirs, Islington Freezing Works, Oddfellows, and a selected team from those engaged in the various racing stables will try conclusions. In the relay race, • the Post Office will be represented by a very warm combination, and some sprinters are engaged in the various other teams. Sixteen running events will be contested. by young and old, while the iiovelty events should cause a great amount of amusement. Afternoon tea will be provided, and a military display will be a feature of the afternoon's proceedings. The children have been particularly well" catered for. Mr T. Teschemaker has kindly consented to perform the _ openiug ceremony, and Derry's Private Band and a Highland Pipe Band will supply a programme of music. In the evening-a dance will be held in the Oddfellows' Hall, Upper Riccarton.
