Lady Pam Will Win Good Races

WANGANUI FORM REVIEWED TRENTHAM HORSES ABROAD Special to THE SUIT WELLINGTON, Today. One of the failures of the Marton and Wanganui meetings has the Hawera contingent mystified. This is Mount Shannon. He has been galloping well on the tracks for some time past, but has failed in his races. Seeing that ho has been backed solidly on his track work he has been costly to his owner and other connections. Mount Shannon is by Solferino from Mazurka, and therefore is a fullbrother to Patuki, who carried the same colours some years ago and won fairly good races. It is expected that he will improve, as he is of a. breed that needs time, bi\t at present his showings are very disheartening. When Conjurer 11. won a hurdle race in Victoria recently, a good price was obtained about him, and his owner and friends are credited with having had good wins. The relative to Poitrel is owned by a Wellington hotelkeeper, who raced him without success in this country, but recently sent him to the land of his birth, fairly confident that he was on the improve and would not be long off the winning list. He is a great galloper on the tracks and should go far in hurdle races. Prospects Bright Rational 11. and Rasouli. both belonging to the same sportsman as Conjurer IT., were sent to Victoria recently and have arrived there in good condition. Rasouli was in good form when he left here and it would not take long to have Rational 11. at hi« best. It will be remembered that Rasouli was a winner at the C.J.C. Grand Natipnal meeting in August. Rasouli's performance there was better than was generally recognised as ho missed the jump out and after giving the field a start of several lengths, simply walked in. He should have no difficulty in paying his way on the Victorian trip. Rational 11. was not ready when he raced at Riccarton during the same meeting, but be gave a taste of his quality, and can be expected to win before he returns to the Dominion. A Good Filly Prior to the Wanganui meeting, Lady Pam galloped so well that it would not have surprised those who saw her working on the tracks, if she had won one of the good races at the River City. She came home empty handed, save for the £35 attached to third place In the New Zealand Eclipse Stakes. But the good race she ran in that event should have compensated lier owner for the expenses of the trip. She finished only three lengths behind Laughing Prince and Toxeuma, whom she met at weight-for-age, and a performance of the kind suggests that she will pay her way among the handicap horses this year. Her one trouble is her fractiousness at the barrier, and until she can be cured of that she* is not a very safe betting proposition, notwithstanding the fact that she looks certain to win races. Lady Pam is engaged in next Saturday’s Hawke’s Bay Guineas. Laconic Shows Promise On the second day of the Wanganui meeting, the Laokham gelding Laconic,, ran a good enough race to warrant his being kept in mind when he steps out I among the hacks at Hawke's Bay j shortly. He is not a handsome geldI ing, but he is a very fair galloper and ! is improving with experience. ! Baskier is the most forward of W. D. ! Moroney’s team, but tiie others are all j coming on nicely. Although they are being trained at Wanganui at present j they will not remain there much longer. ! Moroney stated at Wanganui that he | intends to return to the Wairarapa with ! the whole of his team about the middle ; of next month.

DARGAVILLE DATES

DIFFICULTY IN SELECTION RACING BEFORE CHRISTMAS Special to THE SUN DARGAVILLE, Friday. The. Dargaville Racing Club has decided to apply to the District Committee for Thursday and Saturday, December 18 and 20, 1930, as dates for its next race meeting. At a previous meeting of stewards the secretary was instructed to make application to the proper quarters for dates in February, the 19th and 21st, but a letter received from the secretary of the New Zealand Racing Conference stated that the Rotorua Racing Club, which had fixed its meeting for February 13 and 15, had objected to Dargaville racing so close to its dates. This caused the stewards at this week’s special meeting to discuss the matter thoroughly, and, after searching the calendar from end to end to find suitable days which would not clash with other clubs, the abovementioned dates were finally decided upon to be asked for. Dates in May Following on the above, a large deputation from the Dargaville Business Men’s Association waited on the stewards of the club last evening and made a strong protest against the club's choice of December 18 and 20 as days for its race meeting. On behalf of the association Messrs. H. Tonkin, PA Watters, W. B. Morris and G. L. Haines stated that the holding of a meeting a week before Christmas would not be in the best interests of the business community of the town and district, and asked that some other dates be selected. The president of the club, Mr. R. W. Cuthbert, and Messrs. C. S. Rush and A. C. Ball, stewards, pointed out the difficulty the club had heen under to secure suitable dates including a Saturday, and after a thorough search of the Racing Calendar it had been decided that the dates in December were the only ones suitable. However, they saw the point raised by the Business Men’s Association and meanwhile would withdraw the application to the district committee. A meeting * would bo held at an early date to make another selection. TJie dates favoured are in May, either before or after the Wliangarei autumn meeting. AVONDALE’S SECOND DAY ACCEPTANCES TONIGHT The weights for Monday’s racing at Avondale, when the Avondale Jockey Club’s spring meeting is to conclude, are due about 8 o’clock tonight, and acceptances will be taken up to an hour later —9 o’clock. ANSWER TO CORRESPONDENT “Ajax.”—Haver ins ras scratched for the Wanganui Flying, first day, at 12.10 p.m. on the day of the race.

TAKANINI NOTES

MOVEMENTS OF HORSES Royal Survey has left the charge of Trainer C. Morse and it is not anticipated that the Surveyor—Elysian Rose youngster is not going to be persevered with. Precocious is being- handled by the same mentor and is taking kindly to the education he is receiving. He is expected to be seen on the tracks . shortly. E. Pope’s recent addition arrived from Hawera on Thursday morning. It is a shapely filly by Ruapapa. The newcomer is put together nicely, but appears to be a trifle short in the rein, otherwise she is really difficult to i fault. She is just over 15 hands high | and is owned by the well-known | Wanganui sportsman, Mr. T. Hurley.
