CHURCH IN A RUT
NEW BISHOP WILL HELP TO LIFT IT OUT BUT HE MAY NOT ACCEPT Reed. 10.20 a.m SYDNEY, Today. Archdeacon W. A. Charlton, of Sydney, commenting on the selection of Dr. Talbot as tho new Bishop of Newcastle, said new blood would be welcomed, as the Church in Australia had got into a rut from which an outstanding personality like that of Dr. Talbot should help materially to lift it. * The archdeacon said Dr. Talbot did fine work as a chaplain at the front in the Great War. He was a wellknown writer on ecclesiastical subjects, and his family was associated with Talbot House, the headquarters of Toe H. A Capetown message says the news of the appointment has caused great surprise. Probably no one is more surprised than the Bishop himself, who is on the high seas returning from the Lambeth Conference in London. The Dean of Pretoria and other dignitaries express the opinion that it is extremely doubtful if the Bishop will accept the'appointment.
