TROTTERS’ GOOD FINISH

MID-WEEK FOOTBALL With three players short and 10 points down at lemon time, things loked far from promising for the Trotting Trainers in their midweek football match against the Stonex thirteen. However, with the ranks strengthened in the second spell the Epsomites pulled the game out of the fire. The dairymen were astir early and despite sound defence by the trotting fraternity a burly “glaxo” representative pushed his way across to score a try, which was well converted. The Stonex combination hammered repeatedly at the Epsom gates and finally, before half-time, added another converted try, making their tally 10. During the respite, three more “trotters” were geared up and, with affairs better balanced, the light harness men soon showed their correct paces. They kept the cream vendors at bay, and staying on to greater advantage than their opponents, notched three tries, one of which was improved on. to bring their total up to 11. Thus, with a fine finish, the trotters got home by a "nose.” BARMEN DOWN FERTILISERS There was keen interest in tho clash between the two leading teams, and the game was stubbornly contested from start to finish, and .when the final whistle sounded, the Barmen had scored a narrow margin win. The bar-tenders opened with the right spirit and K forcing the fertilisers back on the heavy turf, scored two tries in quick succession, after bright play. Later the fertilisers found their depth and. keeping up a severe attack, were rewarded with a penalty goal. Before the timekeper sounded the gong fertilisers scored a try, but the pump manipulators left the field victorious by 6 —5. PRIVATE TAXIS PREVAIL The private taxi drivers showed too much speed for their steering associates of the Chess Company, who went under gamely to the tune of 17—5. For some considerable time honours were fairly even, but toward the conclusion of activities the Chess representatives “stalled” under the wet conditions, al lowing the private enterprise merchants to turn on the juice and leave their opponents well in the rear.
