LEADING TEAMS MEET AGAIN

Ponsonby v. Grammar

KEEN interest will be centred in the big game at Eden Park tomorrow, when Ponsonby and Grammar Old Boys meet for the third time this season. The match will determine the senior championship for 1930. On Saturday last these two teams provided a stirring exhibition when Grammar defeated Ponsonby by three points to draw level with last year’s champions. Tomorrow both teams are expected to show even better form as last Saturday was the first occasion either fifteen had played together for some time.

On tho first occasion on which these teams met this season it drawn game resulted and on the second Grammar won by 14 points to 11. Each time a stirring battle between the big Grammar forwards and the fast Ponsonby backs lias resulted. Tomorrow should see another very close game and with the keen interest that has developed there should be a large attendance of the public. A round of other senior matches will also bo played tomorrow’ and lower grade competitions will also be •ontinued. In the first clash Newton secured a narrow victory by 11 points to 9, and another ■\\ in tomorrow, which is anticipated, will give the City club the title. # * * A third intermediate grade representative team, selected from all

players in the competition, will visit Hamilton tomorrow to play the Hamilton third grade representatives. The game will be a curtain-raiser to the Peace Cup game in the Waikato centre. * * * One of the most gratifying results of the competitions this season has been Northcote’s decisive seventh grade championship win. The club entered grade football last season with three teams, which this year was increased to six. The suburban club has shown commendable enthusiasm in its participation in the contests. * * * Eden and Ponsonby, who are on level terms in one section of the fourth grade, will play off tomorrow and the winner will meet Manukau in the final series for the grade championship, * * * The prospects of Grammar annexing the third intermediate grade championship appear bright. The exstudents’ team registered a convincing victory over Grafton, the other championship contestant, and tomorrow will face Manukau. Both teams possess good back divisions so that a keen, open game is anticipated.
