SUN CAUSES FIRE

CLOTHING SET ALIGHT From Our Own Correspondent OPOTIKI, Thursday. An Opotiki resident had an extraordinary experience this morning. Some articles of clothing were placed just inside the window to dry in the sun. Another member of the household placed some articles in a large silver rosebowl, about a foot in diamter. Returning soon afterward she was amazed to see smoke issuing from the rosebowl. Investigation showed that, under the sun’s rays, the inside of the bowl had acted in the same manner as a burning glass, setting fire to the article of clothing. If it had not been noticed in time the bouse would have taken fire, as a curtain was resting against the side of the bowl.
