WORKLESS EX-SOLDIERS
SUM OF £6OO DISTRIBUTED WAR RELIEF ASSOCIATION The sum of £6OO has been received by the Auckland Provincial War Relief and Patriotic Association from the W ar Funds Council since July, and has been disbursed among lit returned soldiers, who are out of work. Sums of £23 each have been allotted to the Rotorua, Hamilton and Opotiki Societies out of the total received. For the first time in its existence the association executive, presided over by Mr. \ . J. Larner, did not have a quorum yesterday, and had to transact the business as a committee. The report on the Veterans’ Home showed that there were now 26 inmates of the institution. six being members of the N.Z.E.F. Without doubt the home would be wholly used for needy ex-members of the N.Z.E.F. in the Great War, and this justified the association transferring £13,000 from the'“A” fund to the capital account of the institution. The expenditure on the upkeep of the home for the past three months had been £632. The association decided to install an up-to-date wireless set for ex-soldier patients at the T. 33. Shelters, adjoining the Auckland Hospital.
