USE OF CIVIC SQUARE RIVAL APPLICATIONS The craze for “Tom Thumb golf” which -has taken the United States by storm, bids fair to take possession of Auckland. Two applications for lease of part of what remains vacant of the Civic Square site were received by the City Council last evening. One syndicate offered £8 a rveek for six months or for whatever term the council might think fit. The other sought a lease for eight months at a nominal rental to be agreed upon. The Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, moved that the offers be referred to the Parks Committee with power to act. Cr. T. Bloodworth proposed the amendment that the committee report hack to the council, which should have the power to decide. Cr. \V. L. Casey: It is not very serious, whichever way It goes. Cr. Bloodworth’s amendment prevailed. the whole council then having to make the decision.
