Obituary

MR. WILLIAM MARKWICK The death has occurred of Mr. William .Tames Markwiek, aged 7S years, a resident of the Auckland district for more than half a century. Mr. Markwiek was horn in England and came to New Zealand with his wife at the age of 23 years, in the sailing-ship British Empire. They settled in Auckland and he followed his occupation as a painter and decorator. Later he .went to Thames and Waitekauri goldfields, but he returned and took up residence at Otahuhu, where he lived until his last illness. He is survived by his wife, six, sons and one daughter. MRS. J. M. STIRLING .Tire death has occurred at Kdipaki of Mrs. Margaret Stirling, at the age of 65 years. She came to . New Zealand with her parents SO years ago and after living in Canterbury they came- to the North Island and took up farming at RaJiiat^ia., In 1391 she "married Mr. .1 M. Stirling, youngest son of Mr. William Stirling, of Da.lhouse, Scotland. About 20 years ago he. (bought a farm at Kaipaki. Mrs. Stirling was an ardent worker for the Ohaupo Ladies’ Anglican Guild. MR. JOHN ECCLE3 An old resident of Whangarei, Mr. John Levies, has died at tlie age of 79, He was born at Liverpool and came to New Zealand with his parents in 1860, and for some time after his arrival lived in Auckland. It was in 1881 when Mr. Eccles went to WhangArei and he started in business and continued until 1912. when he retired. He was the oldest Oddfellow in the district and had filled, at various times, all the offices of the M.U. Lodge and was also a member of the Masonic craft Ho was the prime mover in the provision of a water supply for Whangarei. Before leaving Auckland in 1878 he married A. M. Mee, who came to New Zealand in the ship Queen of the Deep. Mrs. Eccles survives her husband. He leaves three sons. Arthur, V rank and. Sydney, a.U of Whangarei.
