BRITAIN BUILDS MACHINE WITH LONG RANGE CARRIES 40 PASSENGERS British Official Wireless RUGBY. Wednesday. The largest British flying-bcm ever made is to be constructed at the Supermarine works, Southampton, it will have six Rolls-Royce engines of 3,700-h.p., extremely comfortable accommodation for 40 passengers, and a range of 1,000 miles, which will enable it to make long journeys with only occasional descents for fuel. The machine will be a monoplane. Its hugo wing, wth a span of 140 feet, will be six feet thick, and will accommodate luggage and stores. Many new features are inclu ied in the design of the lOOft-long hull. The pilots and engineers will have the upper deck, with a navigation bridge to themselves above the passengers’ quarters giv ng access to the wing and engines. The machine will be all-metal, and when fully loaded will weigh 33 tons.
