MOTOR TRAIN WANTED

MORRINSVILLE DISCUSSION From Our Own Correspondent M OIIRINSVILLE, Wed nesday. Doubts as to the wisdom of the Raliway Department in cutting out the morning and night trains by which Morrinsville people used to make connection with the expresses at Frankton. were expressed by members of the Morrnisville branch of the Farmers' Union. It was considered that by cutting out the trains by which it was possible to visit Auckland in a day, the department was playing into the hands of toad transport, as the only alternative now open to Morrinsville people was to travel to Auckland by motor. The president, Mr. G. H. Pirrit. said the morning and night train service had been of considerable value to farmers wanting to visit Auckland for the day. Captain F. Col beck said he always advocated running motor trains or cars with flanged wheels. The service had been started with a motor service and no reason had beep given why the motor carriage had been taken off. or what had happened to it.. It was decided to write to the Railway Department, pointing out that while the branch did not want trains to be run at a loss, it considered the motor train, with which the service had been started, could carry all the passengers, and its running would not entail a loss of £SO a week. Owing to the recent “cut” they had no alternative but to travel to Auckland by road.
