The light-harness sport in Denmark has three classic events for nativebred youngsters each year. One is for two-year-olds over 1,609 metres with a value of 12,000 kronen, and is called the Produce Stake: another the Criterion, for three-year-olds. with IS,OOO kronen, and the Derby is for four-year-olds only, for a purse of 10.000 kronen. The latter two races ire run over distances of 2.600 and 3.000 metres respectively, with all aorsea starting off the same mark. Run on June 1, the Criterion was won hy McGregor Junior, a colt by Finvarra, 2.05}. Beautiful weather favoured the Derby run at Charlottenlund track at Copenhagen, on the Danish Constitution Day, and a crowd of 16,000 witnessed the race. Leo, an outsider, finished first but had galloped under the finishing wire, and was disqualified. Klondyke was placed the winner, thus beating a field of 11. This colt was driven by Koster, who also won behind McGregor Junior in the Criterion. Klondyke is sired by Burgoo, who was bred at Walnut Hali, the American stallion being sired by Gray Axworthy, 2.081.
