An all-colour “special” talkie is to be made of “Kismet,” the famous stage spectacle, by First National Pictures.
Frank K, vo, absent from the screen for seven years, is playing a part in Buster Keaton’s new talkie, “War Babies.”
British International Bictures are shortly to produce a film dealing with English motor bandits and entitled “Speed.”
As his second talkie, following “The Rogue Song,” Lawrence Tibbett will play in M.G.M.'s “New Moon,” opposite Grace Moore.
Ackmed Abdullah is writing an original play, provisionally entitled “Song of India ” as a starring vehicle for Ramon Novarro.
Supporting George Arliss in the talkie version of “Old English,” now in production, are Doris Lloyd, Herbert Bunston, Joan McLean and Barry Winton.
Walter Huston, who did well in “Gentlemen of the Press” and “The Virginian,” and who is in the talkie, “Abraham Lincoln,” has become a United Artists’ star.
Buddy. Rogers’s brother, who goes by the curious name of Bb Rogers, has been signed on contract by Paramount. He is just 21 and is to be groomed for service as a second “America’s boy-friend.” Lewis Stone, playing the warden in “The Big House,” Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer’s prison picture, was chosen for the role largely because he usually plays aristocrats, and was a former army officer. George Hill, the director, wanted a warden of the aristocratic type as contrast to guards and convicts.
Jean Arthur likes dogs and enjoys training and taking care of them. Two of the Paramount player’s po-ts, Stuby, an airedale, and Rickey, a red cocker-spaniel, recently expressed their gratitude to their mistress by walking off with blue ribons at one of the big dog shows held on the West Coast of America. %
