“JANE CLEGG"
St. John Irvine Play By Little Theatre PRODUCTION IN OCTOBER •‘.Jane Clegg,” one ot SI, John Ervine’s strong dramatic plays, will be presented by the Little Theatre Society from October 1 to October 4. Sybil Thorndike played the name part in the tirst English production of the play. This was by Miss Horni-
man’s company at the Gaiety Theatre, 1 Manchester, but later it was taken to London for a long and successful season on the commercial stage. St. John Ervine is probably the most notable dramatic cr.de in England. He [ has written few plays, but those few . are gems of their kind. His latest, “The First Mrs. Fraser,’’ is still play- . ing in London and is just as popular at the end of its first year as it was . at the beginning. Marie Tempest and Henry Ainley are the leads. "Jane Clegg” is a play worthy of the Little Theatre. It is strong fare, set in a mining town in England. Mona Wallbank will play the name part and will be supported by a strong cast, including two very able children —lsabel Henderson and Jim Grevatt. "Jane Clegg” will be the first of St. John Ervine’s plays to be done lin New Zealand. None of them has I been performed on" the commercial stage. i
