PERSONAL.— Mr. C. C. ’Waters has relieved Mr. C. Burgess, chief officer of the Narbada, for holidays. Mr. C. E. B. Carter has relieved Mr. E. R. Gurr as third officer of the Kaitunh. Mr. Jr. A. Reay is relieving Mr. P. E. Laffer as third officer of the Kanna. Mr. W. A. Dohrn is now second officer of the Waikawa, having relieved Mr. D. W, Williams, who is proceeding to Sydney on holidays. Mr. O. A. Meyer ha 4 been appointed third officer of the Fool fa.. The following second officers have secured their masters’ certificates:—Air. L. Sinclair, at Auckland; Mr. S. B. Ward, at Wellington; Mr. L. L. Clark, at Sydney. Mr. O. H. Dillner, chief engineer of the Kawatiri, lias gone on holiday leave. Mr. R. G. Larsen, fourth engineer of the Kawatiri. is orr holiday. Mr. J. J. Matthews lias relieved Mr. Me Vi car a's second engineer of the Komata. Air. A. Sadler, chief engineer of the Katoa, has gone on holiday leave. Mr. AY. W. Houghton has replaced Mr. W. S. Hall as chief engineer of the Maheno. YARRAVILLE DUE SHORTLY.— The Vacuum Oil Company’s t inker Yarraville is scheduled to arrive .. om San Francisco on Saturday. The vessel has a full cargo of bulk oil for discharge at Auckland, Sydney and Brisbane. PORT BRISBANE LEAVES NEW YORK. —The C. and D. Line has received cabled advice that the Port Brisbane loft New York on September 3 with cargo for discharge at Auckland* Wellington, Lyttelton and Dunedin. She is due at Auckland on October 2 and at Wellington on October 6. THE .PENYBRYN. —The Norwegian steamer Penybryn, now at Chelsea AVliarf, is to leave there this evening and anchor in the stream. Tomorrow morning she is to go into dock for Cleaning and painting, and will undock again on Friday morning. According to her local agent, Spedding’, Ltd., her future movements have not yet been decided.

SOUTHERN CROSS TOMORROW. — Messrs. AVatkin and Wallis advises that the Melanesian Alission steamer Southern Cross, now* at Central Wharf loading general cargo and stores, is to be dispatched at 11 a.m. tomorrow' on her periodic trip round the mission stations in the Southwest Pacific. SILDRA TOMORROW. —According to her radio advice the Shell Company’s chartered Norwegian tanker Sildra is due in port tomorrow morning from Singapore. The vessel is to berth at Western Wharf to put out the local portion of her cargo of bulk oil and later sails for other New* Zealand ports to complete discharge. WAIRUNA DUE A.M. TOMORROW. — An arrival from Pacific Coast ports tomorrow morning will be the Union Steam Ship Company’s trans-Pacific steamer Wairuna with general merchandise for discharge at Auckland, Wellington, Melbourne, Sydney and Newcastle. The vessel will berth at Queen’s Wharf. FERNWOOD DUE SATURDAY. —The Norwegian motor-ship Fern wood has reported by wireless that she will arrive from New' Orleans next Saturday evening. The vessel has bitumen and general cargo from Gulf of Mexico ports for discharge at Auckland, Gisborne, Napier, Wellington, Lyttelton, New Plymouth, Sydney and Melbourne. Henderson and Ltd., is the local agent. PARRAKOOLA DUE THIS EVENING. The Swedish motor-ship Parrakoola is due from San Francisco this evening. She will bertji at Queen's Wharf to unload general Cargo from Los Angeles and San Francisco and fruit from Niue Island. From Auckland she will go to Wellington, , Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne to complete discharge. Spedding, Ltd., is the local agent. RANGITIKI FOR FINAL LOADING.— The New Zealand Shipping Company's motor-liner Rangitiki left Tokomaru Bay hist evening and she is expected at Auckland tonight. The vessel will berth at Prince’s Wharf to* complete loading refrigerated and general < argo for England. She is to be dispatched for Southampton and London next Tuesday. TURAKINA TO REPLACE CAMBRIDGE.—Advice received from the New* Zealand Shipping Company states that an alteration is to be made in the West Coast United Kingdom-New Zealand service. The s.s. Turakina is to replace the s.s. Cambridge, and will sail from Liverpool on October 11 for Auckland, AVellington, Lyttelton*, Port Chalmers and Oamaru. She is expected to arrive at Auckland on November IS. PASSENGERS ON LARGS BAY. —The following passengers for New Zealand are travelling by the Aberdeen-Common-Svealth liner Largs Bay, which is due at Sydney from London next Monday:—For Wellington: Mr. T. MAKURA FOR SAN FRANCISCO.— The Union Steam Ship Company's Royal Mail liner Makura was scheduled to sail from Wellington for San Francisco, via Rarotonga and Papeete, at 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon. Soloy, Sonoma, Tofua, Vacuoline, WaiWAI PA HI WITH FRUIT. —Early this morning the Union Company’s Island fruit steamer Waipahi arrived in port from the Cook Islands, and later berthed at Prince’s Wharf. The vessel brought a cargo of fruit for New* Zealand, consisting of 17,000 cases odd. the bulk of w'hich is for dDchargte here, the remainder being for Wellington. The cargo comprises

oranges, tomatoes, bananas and lemons, and a number of sacks of coconuts. The Waipahi left Auckland on August 22 and enjoyed fair weather to Rarotonga and fair to moderate conditions on her cruise round the islands. In order, she called ar Rarotonga, Aitutaki, Atiu. Mauke and back to Rarotonga. clearing there on August 31 for Auckland. On the returi. trip she had boisterous weather all the way. From the time of clearing Rarotonga she was beset by a fresh bree~e veering from west to west-south-west, accompanied by rough head seas and a very heavy head swell. Those conditions did not ease up till yesterday. The Waipahi is to sail at 8 o’clock tonight for Wellington to complete unloading. Shfi is announced t<x leave Auckland on September IS on her next trip to the Cook Islands for fruit. Captain G. D. Fraser retains command.
