Obituary
MR. D. McANDREW The death has occurred at a private hospital of Mr. Donald Me Andrew at the age of 88. Born in Scotland, Mr. McAndrew came to New Zealand more than 60 years ago, and for many years was employed on sheep stations in Dunedin, later movjng to the Auckland goldfields. Nearly 50 years ago he took up land at Papakura on what is now known As the Park Estate, selling it some years later to go to Huntly. He left there about five years ago and returned to Papakura, where he lived in retirement. He was unmarried and had no relatives in New Zealand. MR. A. McCALLUM The death lias occurred of Air. Archibald McCallum, of Blenheim. He was' the third son of the late Mr. Archibald McCallum, one of the district’s earliest pioneer settlers, and was born at Blenheim in 1860. Mr. McCallum was educated at the borough school and after learning farming on his father’s property, Waterlea, in 1883, he started farming on his own account on a portion of the Waterlea property. In 1902 he established a well-known flourmilling business at Grove Road, and had continued to carry this on ever since. Mr. McCallum became Mayor of Blenheim in 1907, and retained the office in 1908 and 1909, in which year he was also president of the Marlborough Jubilee Association. He became a Government representative on the Marlborough Land Board in May, 1907, and remained on the board until May, 1913, and was again its representative from 1918 to the time of his death. He had been chairman of the Wairau Harbour Board and president of the Agricultural and Pastoral Society. In his younger days he was a keen Rugby player. He was a brother of the Hon. R. McCallum, M L.C.—(P.A.)
