AMY JOHNSON SAYS GIRLS COULD EMULATE HER
Reccl. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Wednesday At a gathering of distinguished British youth organised by the “Daily Mail” at the Savoy, Miss Amy Johnson, the girl flier, was presented wi'-h the first cert.'icate of honorary membership of the United Kingdom Guild of A.ir Pilots and Navigators ever given to a woman, and also the “Daily Mail’s” cheque for £10,009 and a gold cup from British youth. Those present included the youthful leaders of the. British stage, cinema, sport, literature, science, art, politics, music, education, commerce and architecture. Miss Johnson, in replying to laudatory speeches, said: “There was nothing exceptional in my flight, except that I am a girl. There is no reason why any girl should not emulate it.”
