BIGGEST STAKE WINNERS LAST SEASON HUNTING CRY AND EAGLET

According to the official list compiled and published in the New Zealand "Referee,” two three-year-olds were at the top of the table of winning horses for the season which ended last Thursday. These juveniles were Hunting Cry and Eaglet, trained at Hastings (by J. M. Cameron) and Takanini (by JT. Jamieson) respectively. Hunting Cry won the Great Northern Derby, this success being responsible for nearly half his total. Eaglet, second on the list, captured the Avondale and Great Northern Guineas, and the New Zealand Oaks, for her Auckland owner Best Handicapper The four-year-old Concentrate (trained at Trentham) was third on the list, his biggest successes being in tlio Auckland and Wellington Cups. Concentrate was tin* biggest winner among the handicap performers. Other Auckland horses well lip in tho list were Pegaway, Corinax, In the Shade and Prodice, all winning over £ 2,000. However. Auckland horses’ placings on tho winning list were only second, twelfth, sixteenth, seventeenth and nineteenth. The following is the list of the leading winning horses:

RELATED TO TOXEUMA A PROMISING FILLY GOOD WORD FOR HINE WF.Hf lline Wclii, the half-sister to Toxeuma, who last week entered her two-year-old period, gives promise of turning out satisfactorily. On appearances she is assuredly a good looker, and in addition sho is brimful of power, and it would not be at all surprising to see her occupy a foremost place among tho two-year-old contestants this season (comments a Napier writer).

NICE PRESENTS TWO HORSES THAT WON UNORTHODOX BUT * SUCCESSFUL TRAINING Mr. R. Bailie, who. the cable man told us died last week, was formerly a prominent owner and trainer, and the notable successes of his horses was attributed to his unorthodox, but effective, training methods. He was the early owner of that fine racehorse, David Mr Bailie, who trained his horses first at Canterbury Park and later at Rosehill. did not believe in housing his thoroughbreds, and in wet weather a double supply of rugs was provided For him Don Moon won the 1927 Don caster Handicap on an exceptionally heavy course and King of the Forest won two Summer Cups in his colours in 1921 and 1923.

Some months ago Mr Bailie, who had retired from his former activity in the turf in New South Wales purchased Hustler and The Quaker, and presented them to a relation, the wellknown Rosehill trainer. E. M. Williams. The horses won races at Canterbury Park on June 7.
