BANKRUPT BUILDER
NO STATEMENTS FILED MEETING ADJOURNED No statement and no financial schedule were filed by Henry John Lyons, builder, of Point Chevalier, and creditors who met before the official assignee, Mr. A. W. Watters, this morning. decided to adjourn until the facts would be forthcoming. Mr. W. W. Meek, acting for the bankrupt, said, that his client had been a builder for many years and until three years ago he had employed an accountant, but since that time the work had been done by an accountant who kept the books of many people. This’ man was at present away, but would be able to furnish a proper statement when he returned. Mr. White, for a creditor, asked the assignee if any books had been put in and received a reply in the negative, •’Bankrupt said in court proceedings that he had no books,” said Mr. White. Air. Meek: The books are in existence. A creditor: Bankrupt has had tons ol time to get the books ready. Mr. Meek: It is impossible with the accountant away. How could a man with business running into thousands prepare that off-hand? Air. O’Donnell, acting for a creditor: It is very unsatisfactory as far asbankrupt is concerned. He has had time to prepare. Bankrupt explained that he had tried to see his accountant but was told he was away. The assignee said that it was a question of either adjourning until the full facts were available or of just examining the bankrupt. Mr. O'Donnell: We cannot crossexamine the bankrupt about hi* affairs until we are conversant with the facts.
