LONDON BUTTER MARKET
COMPARISON OF PRICES BIG FALL ON LAST YEAR Recent cables from London record a steady market for butter with quotations for exceptional holding at up to 140 s. The average weekly prices of New Zealand salted butter on the London market have been consistently lower during the season now nearly ended, as compared with the 1928-29 season, except during October lasf. Since the beginning' of this year prices have been very much lower. The movement in prices from the first week in March compare as under:
Over the 20 weeks to July 18, the average fall, as compared with last year, was 35s 6d a cwt., or £35 10s a ton. The exports of butter to the United Kingdom in the months of March, April, May, and June were* 466,822 cwt., and what would have ac-
crued to the producers if last year’s average prices had been realised can be estimated. The exports of butter from the Dominion for the season to June 30 showed an increase of approximately 14,000 tons on last season so that increased production has largely minimised the effect of the heavy fall in prices.
