August 16—Music Week begins. End of August—Dackliaus Return Contorts. September 25 (about) —Auckland Choral Society. Coming—Florence Austral. Concerts Arranged Most of the choral societies in the country have got. their first concerts of the present season over, and are now engaged on works for the second concerts (writes “Alford,” in the Marlborough “Express”). Works known to be in hand at the present time by various societies are: “A Tale of Old Japan” (Dunedin), “Maritant” (Devin and Wellington Orpheus). “Hiawatha” (Wellington, for Music Week, and New Plymouth), “Ducia di Lammermoor (Christchurch), “Bohemian Girl” (Greymouth), “Golden Legend” (Wellington). “Merrie England” (Napier). Theatrical Changes After having occupied the position of musical director at the Civic Theatre since its opening, Mr Ted Henkel hits resigned, and is leaving for Sydney tomorrow to take up a similar position at the Capitol Theatre, at which ho was musical director for nearly two years, before being en gaged by Mr. T. A. O’Brien. Mr Henkel, who has become greatly attached to Auckland, says that it is only after repeated requests from the Capitol that ho decided to return to his former position. Mr. Fred Scholl, who has been organist at tho Civic Theatre since its opening, is also returning with Mr. Henkel. Mr. Howard Moody will now act as musical director at the Civic. ;
