OPEN LETTER TO SALESMEN AND SALESWOMEN
"Dear Sir or Madam.— "Your attention is naturally devoted to your job and your best efforts are put forward to get a good “book" every day.
"You know of course, how greatly you can influence the choice of your customers, and if your efforts are wisely directed, you can do an Immense amount of good for yourself as well as for your customer. “Just at the moment some factories are working reduced hours. Some people are actually out of work. "That means fewer customers for you; it might even mean that jom could not be kept on. “If your customers buy local products they create work in the factories here, where we need it. These wage earners will have money to spend. “There’s nothing so comforting as the knowledge that your job is waiting for you every day. "Just think of this when making a sale. If you sell the imported article, the work and the money go out of the State and your job is imperilled. "If you sell the local product, we will all benefit. Use your Influence for good.” The above letter was sent out to all shop assistants by the West Australian Chamber of Manufacturers. Perth, but its lesson applies equally well to New Zealanders.
