PROVINCIAL CONFERENCE HELD DATES OF FIXTURES Of 51 Agricultural and Pastoral Associations in the North Island, 33 are in the Auckland Province. This Mas stated by Mr. J? T. F. Mitchell, president of the Auckland Provincial Council of Affiliated Agricujtural and Pastoral Associations, at the annual conference, which opened yesterday. The following delegates were present: —Messrs. W. W. Massey and E. D. McLennan (Auckland), A. E. Bedggood (Bay of Islands), X. J. Sutherland and D. M. Bryan (Clevedon), H. C. Ivissling and R. C. Clark (Franklin), F. W. Kean (Tauranga), W. J. Lowe (Te Puke), C. P. Butler (Whangarei) and G. C. Schiska (Waiwera). In extending a welcome to delegates. Mr. Mitchell said that it was hoped that the conference would assist in bringing the* associations into greater touch with each other. Among the many questions of mutual interest to all associations was the avoidance of clashing of show dates, the regulation of side-shows and the drawing up of uniform schedules of classes to suit present needs. YOUTHS AS JUDGES The Auckland Association recommended that a scheme be introduced for the purpose of training youths to become practical judges of the various classes at agricultural shows. The remit was carried. A further remit suggesting that the North Island conference be asked to support the proposal for the issue of the national diploma of agriculture and dairy science to suitable candidates was held over, as the question is being investigated by the Royal Agricultural Society. On the recommendation of the Auckland Association it was decided to compile a list of judges in needlework, are, home industries, photography, poultry, dogs and rabbits, for the guidance of smaller shows. A letter was received from the New Zealand Dairy Breeders’ Association, asking that no list of official judges be published other than those lists received by the various breeders’ societies. It was agreed to comply to the request. DATES OF SHOWS
The following: dates for shows were confirmed:—Waikato, November 1213j Te Aroha, November 23-26; Bay of Islands, November 29; Helensville. January 29; Tangiteroria, Rodney and Clevedon, February 7; Matakana, February 14: Franklin, February 13-14; Te Awamutu, February 18; Northern Wairoa and Wairewa, February 21; Matamata, February 24; Broad wood, February 27; Cambridge, February 4-5: Auckland, February 26-27-28; Towai. March- 7; Morrinsville, March 11. The Whangarei Association has offered to alter the date of its show from November 26-27 to December 3-4 in order to avoid clashing with the Te Aroha Association, which is holding its show in its jubilee week. It was decided to supply a list of show dates to the Tauranga Association so that Bay of Plenty show’ dates may be arranged to the best advantage to all. The following officers were elected: President, Mr. J. T. F. Mitchell: vicepresidents, Messrs. R. C. Clark and L. W. Nelson: secretary. Mr. W. F O'Donnell: executive committee, Messrs. H. C.
