£33,000 TO DATE
BRITISH TOUR A BIG ATTRACTION RECORD GATES When the Springboks played Auckland In July, 3921, 25,000 saw the game at Eden Park. Today it is expected that that figure, a record for representative games, will be eclipsed. In 1904 and 1908, when British teams visited Auckland, the attendance upon both occasions was estimated at 22,000. Those games were played at Potter’s Paddock, which has now become the Alexandra Park trotting course. The present tour has proved a big attraction, and already the gate takings have yielded over £33,000. On the basis of attendances to date, this figure should exceed £50,000 before the tour ends, and the expenses, as far as the team itself is concerned, have been estimated at £17,000. In several cases the attendances have ben given, but not the actual takings. For purposes of comparison, an estimate based on other attendances has been made to arrive at the approximate takings. Following is a list of attendances and takings up to and including the Hawke’s Bay match, the Gisborne figures not being available:— •
