“FLATLY REFUSED”
ROOM IN QUEEN’S ARC ADE AS BOOKING OFFICE SHELTER FOR QUEUE A room in the Queen’s Arcade was offered to the Auckland Rugby Union as a booking office for seats for the test match at Eden Park. This was refused by the union, however, although no charge would have been made for the use of the room. The owners of the Queen’s Arcade, Davis Properties, Ltd., stated this morning that they had anticipated that queues would form up to book tickets. They made their offer because the whole of the arcade is under cover and no one need have waited In the biting cold and rain. "The Rugby Union just turned the offer down flat,” said one of the owners this morning. “Had this offer been accepted those unfortunate people who had to wait all night. and some of them two nights, in the bitter cold and rain, would have been able to do so in comparative comfort. It would havemade very little difference as far as the booking facilities were concerned, as the room was a fairly large one and would have accommodated all requirements. “Furthermore, a crowd of several hundreds could have found shelter in the arcade, which runs from Queen Street to Customs Street.”
