ORDERED BATH FOR SICK HORSE ONE MONTH FOR FRAUD Bathing a horse in warm water and then keeping it in a warm place, was the way to restore dobbin to health, according to Robert Martin Fennell, who appeared at the Police Court today. Fennell, a salesman, aged 32, was charged with obtaining 17s from Annie Molloy at Waimate, in the South Island, on May 1, by representing himself to be a veterinary surgeon. He was charged further with obtaining credit amounting to £4 7s 3d from two different people in Auckland by fraud. Through Mr. Harsh he pleaded guilty. Mr. Haigh, for accused, said the full amount of restitution had been handed to him and he would guarantee it was paid. He understood that Fennell was really good at treating horses and cattle.
"How many did he treat in gaol?” asked Mr. Hunt. “That’s where he’s been.”
Mr. Haigh asked for probation, stating that Fennell's friends would look after him.
On the first two charges. Fennell was convicted and discharged, and on the last, charge of obtaining credit by fraud, he was sentenced to one month.
