Railway Rationing Negotiations Fail
NO PLANS SUBMITTED * • MINISTER’S STATEMENT THE SUX’S Parliamentary Reporter PARLIAMENT BLDGS., Thursday. The negotiations between the Minister of Railways, the Hon. W. A. Veitch, and representatives of the railway workers’ organisations in connection with the adoption of a scheme of rationing work to keep casual men in employment have come to a temporary end, but the Minister expresses himself as perfectly willing at any time to consider any scheme submitted. A further conference was held this afternoon at Parliament Buildings, and this evening the Minister Id formed a Sun representative that no proposals for rationing work in substitution for the dismissals had been submitted by the railway workers’ representatives. “The men under notice to leave,” he said, "will finish up this evening.” Regarding future negotiations, he said he would be glad at any time to receive representations.
