In reply to a question by Cr. Alice Hasten, the City Engineer, Mr. J. Tyler, reported to the City Council last evening that the Waterfront Road would be ready for dedication when the new bridges were completed at the end of the year. * * •
Commercial Airport The Works Committee reported that it intended to convene a conference of local authorities within a radius of live miles from the city boundary, concerning the proposed commercial airport for Auckland. The conference would be at the Town Hall on July 30 at 7.30 p.m., and each local authority, including county councils, the Harbour Hoard, the Electric-Power Board and the Transport Board, would be invited to send two delegates. Common Sense “Have some common sense,"' Cr. M. J. Coyle adjured Cr. J. R. Lundon, who was declaring opinions at length. “Of the Coyle type?” queried Cr. Lundon. “You’ll never have that,” retorted Cr. Coyle. * * * “Councillors should not read their speeches,” said Cr. Ellen Melville, in objecting when Cr. J. R. Lundon was reading reports out to the council. “We may all think that, but I cannot rule Cr. Lundon out of order," remarked the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon. “And councillors should know what they are doing,” retorted Cr. Lundon, in reading of the reports. Stadium Accommodation- “ Western Springs Stadium is a fullsized football ground,” said Cr. J. B. Paterson, chairman of the Parks Committee, in replying to a question. “We can accommodate about 11,000 people sitting and from 60,000 to 70,000 people standing.”
