AUCKLAND RACING CLUB
ELECTION OF OFFICE-BEARERS
The annual general meeting of members of the Auckland Racing Club is to be held at the Chamber of Commerce. Swanson Street, on Monday. August 11. At midday tomorrow, Saturday, nominations for the offices of president, vice-president, five committeemen and three stewards must be deposited with the secretary. Mr. W. S. Spence.
On© point the Wanganui executive might consider to advantage is. arranging the cup event lor the second day— Saturday. At present the prircipal event of the meeting is decided on the opening day—Thursday—while Saturday is the chief event for the public. The Cup Contest By placing the cup on the second day card, and tightening the present limit a couple of seconds, the contest would be made more attractive for all concerned. If such a move is forthcoming, the club will be amply rewarded when the lists are compiled. Many improving horses that will be seen ai Hawera and New Plymouth will qualify for the big races at Wanganui and by the time the cup comes up for decision on the final day. Keen interest will have been aroused in the event. The fact in the past that tho great item of the meeting is decided before the “peoples’ day” may have something to do with the apathy of Wanganuites over the affair. At any rate the executive is on the alert to make the next programme attractive, with a view to having a record function. With suitable dates there i? every chance that after next April trotting will be firmly planted in Wanganui as a popular anc. interesting sport. A Probable Change There is a possibility that with the appreciable change of dates for Its forth-coming fixture, the Wargamri Club may also make a change of haodicapper. Although nothing definite is at present known in this respect, it i* stated in some quarters that, the Hawera-Taranaki adjuster, will be found framing the handicaps for the Wanganui meeting. Being present at the fixtures and seeing the fom just prior to Wanganui will certainly be * strong factor in favour of the northern official’s appointment.
