EXPRESS DELAYED
MIXED TRAIN BLOCKS ROUTE ENGINE DERAILED .Us the result of a mishap to a mixed goods and passenger train at Kaukapakapa yesterday afternoon, the Whangarei-Auckland express was delayed. reaching the city two hours late. The engine of the mixed train was derailed, but the accident was not serious. The express did not arrive at Auckland until 8.20 p.m., the second express to Wellington being held back until 5.28 p.m. for the convenience of Southern travellers.
Only the front bogey wheels of the mixed train engine went off the rails. They were replaced on the lines after operations lasting two hours. The express was held up at Kaukapakapu for about 40 minutes, and it then passed through ahead of the mixed train, which did not arrive in Auckland until midnight, five hours behind schedule time.
