WAIRAU CREEK SCHEME

TAKAPUNA RATEPAYERS’ ATTITUDE PLAN NOT POPULAR Many Takapuna ratepayers are not enamoured of the scheme to modify the Wairau creek outlet at Milford; in fact, some, particularly in the central area, are inclined to oppose the project on the ground that it is not now opportune to embark on schemes for more recreation areas. The undertaking, of course, is dependent upon the ability of the promoters to raise £1,200 by public subscriptions and to secure Government unemployment relief subsidies. Bays water residents, who have shown commendable enthusiasm in beautifying their own district, are ready to support a borough policy of improving the Wairau estuary as planned, and under which the Takapuna Borough will provide the rock for the sea walls construction, and cart it to the site. Meantime, the central ratepayers are seeking full information concerning the probable cost of the scheme.
