MILFORD BATHING POOL FINANCE NEW MOTION TO BE MOVED Notice to rescind the resolution of the Takapuna Borough Council on June 25, which approved the construction of the proposed aquatic sports ground on the Wairau estuary, Milford, at the joint expense of the Borough Council, the North Shore Transport Company, and from funds to be raised by subscription, has been given by a council member, Mr. J. Guiniven. His motion will suggest that, provided the sanction of the Marine Department is obtained, the Transport Company be allowed to construct a bathing pool in conformity with the council’s plans and entirely at the company’s expense. The present scheme was put before the Milford Cruising Club on Friday evening by the chairman of the borough’s Parks Committee, Mr. J. A. Algie, and by the acting-borough engineer, Mr. J. D. Bodle. Members gave their hearty approval of the scheme.
The various sports bodies and associations in the borough will be issued with blueprints of the plans in order to secure full co-operation. The unemployment problem of the borough will be relieved considerably if the scheme is approved by the Marine Department and the money raised, as the Government subsidy will enable much labour to be employed. Many men have already come into the district from outside and are seeking employment. As a start cannot be made for some time, the men are being advised to register their names at the employment bureau in the City, at the post office or at the local bureau. A scheme of work by rotation, employees ceasing work for one week out of five, is being investigated by a sub-commit-tee of the council in regard to the outside staff.
