Two gliders are under construction at Hamilton, and there is a proposal afoot for forming: a gliding club. At the Central Power Board meeting on Wednesday Mr. T. Hinton, the chairman, gave an assurance that there was no necessity for farmers to install auxiliary power plants for milking machines to augment their present electrical ones. The picturesque old pergola in Garden Place, off the main street, is in danger of collapse, and the Beautifying Society has set up a committee to consider substituting it with a punga pergola. That no records were obtainable showing which St. John was the patron saint of St. John’s, Te Awamutu, was stated at the Waikato Synod this week. Mr. H. A. Swarbrick said exhaustive inquiries had been made to discover details of the consecration of the church without success. It had been assumed that 9t. John the Evangelist was the patron saint. Excavations at the foot of Anglesea Street in connection with the new traf • fic route have caused the children’s playing apparatus to be dismantled. The borough council will be approached to find another suitable space for •them.
