Chased by two policemen in motorcars, Edward Leslie Baker, a labourer, aged 20, who was driving a car about one o’clock yesterday morning which had been reported missing earlier in the evening, found himself cornered and he jumped out and made over some back fences. It was useless, however, and he appeared in the Police Court yesterday. After hearing the probation officer's report, Ml'. E. Page, S.M.. remarked that quite a number of young housebreakers started their escapades by taking someone else’s car. He imposed a fine of £ls, in default two months’ gaol. The fine may be paid at the rate of £1 a week.
