NEARING 2,000,000
UNEMPLOYED AT HOME » INCREASING FAST LABOUR PARTY DIVIDED LONDON, Wednesday. The unemployed in Britain are nearing the 2,000,000 mark. The latest total is 1,890,600 for the week ended June 30, an increase of 75,258, compared with the previous week. Strong speeches were made at a meeting of Labour members of Parliament today. The Prime Minister, Mr. MacDonald, complained that critics in their own party were causing dissatisfaction in their constituencies instead of working in unity with the rest of the party.
The latest return shows an increase in 12 months of 777,800. of which 412,000 has "been added since the beginning of this year. Unemployment in Britain, as measured by registrations, is now worse than at any time since 1922, when industry was disorganised by the post-war slump. When the Labour Government entered office on June 8 last year, there were 1,112.800 registered.
