GLARING HEADLIGHTS

MENACE TO MOTORISTS ] A.A.A. TO TAKE ACTION The menace of glaring headlights i* expected to be decreased short' v through the decision last evening of the council of the Auckland Automobile Association to test and adju.-t motor-car headlights at a nominal charge to non-members. Members may have their lights adjusted free. The president, Mr. A. Grayson, said that he had seen many glaring headlights on his way to the meeting. There was considerable danger to motorists through the law in this respect not being enforced. Local bodies throughout the province are to be advised that patrols will be available for this service. The Auckland City Council will he asked to provide facilities such :i s existed formerly on the Civic Squa * for testing. Many accidents have been caus 1 through headlights being so adjusted that the main beam shines too hi - i and dazzles approaching motoris’ Last week the coroner in Auckland commented on the fact that the law was not being enforced in this direc - tion and stated that the fatal accident then being inquired into could have been averted. It had been suggested at the meeting that the trouble would be abated were dealers required to adjust lamps before sending new cars out on the road, but a patrolman stated that the chief trouble was with the old<*r vehicles. If motorists do not avail themselves of the opportunity for testing afforded by the A.A.A., the association will urge the City Council to take drastic actios.
