Five persons were drowned, including four passengers, one of whom was an American woman, when a Dornier-Wal flying-boat employed in the Stettin-Stockholm service came down in the Baltic Sea after a broken crankshaft had caused the propeller to splinter, tearing a wing and destroying the wireless aerials. T HE flying-boat drifted in a heavy sea for several hours until a schooner came to the rescue. The schooner was unable to take off the occupants and begq.ii towing the machine, which capsized. The pilot a mechanic and one passenger were picked up, but a search for the others proved fruitless.
