‘UNWARRANTABLE’

RADIO OFFICIAL REPLIES TO MR. ROWE DISINTERESTED ATTITUDE Special to THE SLA CHRISTCHURCH, Today. Replying to the statements made by the vice-president of the Trotting Conference, a head official of the : Radio Broadcasting Company said ■ ; "Ever since the racing authorities imposed a ban on the broadcasting of ! descriptions of events from the course, the broadcasting company, so far as it possibly could, lias adhered to the wishes of the racing autlio: ities in refraining from broadcasting . actual descriptions of the races while . they were being run. i "The company nevertheless, was of ! the opinion that in the interests of a • large section of its listeners interested in racing and trotting events general details of metropolitan meeiI ings should be broadcast and arrangements were made lor : starters, scratchings, positions at post and the names of placed horses at metropolitan meetings to be broadcast wherever this was practicable. There was never any question of broadcasting for the benefit of bookmakers as is snggested b> Mr. Rowe,” he continued. “There can be little doubt that the great mass of the public will be fully appreciative of the wholly disinterested attitude of the company in regard to this matter and will strong].resent the unwarrantable imputations ' which appear to have been made by a responsible member of the Trotting Conference.
