“LOVE LIES” SUCCESS
“SO THIS IS LOVE” COMING The outstandingly successful musical comedy, “Love Lies,” played by the J. C. Williamson English company, continues to delight large audiences at His Majesty’s Theatre. The show will be staged for four more niglits, and on Saturday a final matinee performance will be given. Tho breezy musical comedy, “So This is Love?” will be staged by the clever company on Tuesday evening, which will be the first occasion this entertainment has been seen in Auckland. “So This is Love?” has been running very successfully for the past nine months at the Winter Garden Theatre, London, and Clem Dawe and his fellow-artists achieved an outstanding triumph in it in Melbourne recently. The comedy was produced in London under the direction of the famous comedian, Leslie Henson. It is from the pen of Stanley Lupino and Arthur Rigby, who were responsible for “Love Lies,” and the music was composed by Ilal Brody, with lyrics by Desmond Carter. For three hours a generous measure of fun, frolic, artistic dancing and glorious melodies is provided in “So This is Love?” and Clem Dawe, as the perfect fool, is, it is said, even more humorous than in “Love Lies.” Bobby 'Gordon has an abundance of opportunities to demonstrate further his comedy talents in the role of Hazzard, and others who have congenial parts are Marie Eaton, Katherine Stewart. Mona Barlee, Compton Coutts, Paul Plunket and the delightful London actress, Miss Betty Eley. Features of the new production are the “tap dancing” by the brilliant young Australian ballet girls, and the sensational specialty dance by Mona Zeppel and John Robertson. Tho box plans for “So This is Love” will be opened tomorrow (Friday) morning.
