Parsoc* A large family reunion to celebrate the centenary of the birth ©f Don Juan Del Monte tPapa Juan), the paterfamilias of an Andalusian family. :s the theme forming the basis of this Spanish play. The scenes are enacted in the drawing room of Papa Juan s house in the town of Aren ales del Rio. The first act opens with Evaristo. a somewhat splenetic although khfcJhearted member of the family, iLcussing the coming celebrations with Dona Marciaia, Their ardour is considerably dampened by the appearance of Dona Filomena during tb? height of the discussion. This caarater, who is one of those delightfd creatures “wearing her heart upon ber sleeve for daws to peck.” immediate begins airing her views with grest vehemence and succeeds in involving everyone. Needless to say, she is or popular. The tension of the scene is relieved Iby the appearance of the hero. Tren-*-a breezy individual, who brings a r«r of sunshine into the house. The | logue in the scene is well done. | The next act reveals how Treno ’ meets Currita. and the pretty lit: - I romance that ensues. Don Juan. wb©~; i kindly personality impresses its* .’, upon every member of the family, h—more than a finger in the pie. T. e final stages show the engagement r " the two young people, the thawing d Dona Filomena’s icy soul, and t- - happy reunion of all. The play was amusing and the interlocution well done. The perfort'* ance of Mr. Lindsay is to be special :• commended for its realism and nature - ness. The remaining _ charade: s acquitted themselves creditably. Th© proceeds from the play will »*« allocated to the Y.M.CA gymnasia 1 touring team to enable it to paru: * pate in the New Zealand gymnasm n championships next October in We* j ington.
