MR. A. MACASKILL The death occurred in Wellington last evening of Mr. Allan Macaskill, at the age of 70. Born on the Island of ; Skye, Mr. Macaskill came to New Zea- , land 45 years ago and entered business \ in Wellington. He moved to Lower | Hutt about 25 years ago and was later ; manager of the Westland Timber Com- ; pany, occupying, that position until his i death. He was actively interested in j politics and local affairs. MR. J. SPARROW Mr. J. Sparrow, who died at Dunedin yesterday, was- the founder of a wellknown Southern engineering business, the Victoria Ironworks. He was born in 1842 and arrived at Port Chalmers in 1869. He spent the rest of his life in Dunedin, and last year celebrated. I with Mrs. Sparrow, the 65th anniver- 1 sarv of his marriage. He is survived i by his wife and a family of four sons I and two daughters. With the excep- ! tion of two daughters, all the family is married. DR. F. L. ATKINSON The late Dr. Frank Lockwood Atkinson, of Devonport, who died in the Auckland Hospital on Sunday, was buried at O'Neill’s Point Cemetery yesterday. Dr. Atkinson was a member of the military medical staff at Narrow Neck Camp, and served in Samoa during the war. He was very popular with the soldiers An illness, contracted during his war service, incapacitate 1 him for some years. He leaves his wife and a daughter. MR. F. FANTHORPE The death occurred at the Mater Misericord iae Hospital, Auckland, on Monday evening, of Mr. Frederick ! Fanthorpe, of Taumarunui. Mr Fanthorpo arrived from England with his parents when a young boy, his father taking up land in the Feilding district. Air. Fanthorpe took up tho joinery business, and traded in Kim- ! bolton, at that time known as Birmingham. Twenty-one years ago he purj chased a grocery business in Taumaru- : uui, which he subsequently developed into one of the largest drapery businesses in the district. While in the Kimbolton district. Air. Fanthorpe was prominent in sport, and captained a football team for some years. He tired from business about 18 months ago. and was receiving special medical attention in Auckland when his death took place. Airs. Fanthorpe. a son (Air Wallace Fanthorpe), and two daughters (Airs. W. Forbes and Airs. J. A. AlacDonald), all of Taumarunui, are the nearest surviving relatives.
