SONGS IN SUNSHINE

CANARY SHOW TODAY NORTH ISLAND CHAMPION With all the trills of a prima donna on an opening night. Yorkshire canaries of many varieties balanced lightly on their perches this morning, or preened themselves as though conscious of the coming inspection, at the Epiphany Church Hall, Karangahape Road. The sixth annual open show of the Auckland Yorkshire Canary Club was in progress. Exactly 100 birds had been entered by their owners, but two had become ill during the last week, and were not on display. The best bird in the show was the excellent yellow of Mr. Norman Munro, according to the judge. Mr. T. G. Knight. He awarded the North Island championship in its particular class, on behalf of the Poultry, Pigeon, and Canary Association, to Mr. Norman Hanson, for an exceptionally good buff. The judges paid a tribute to the secretary, Mr. J. Gilbert, for his work in reorganising the club. Awards are as follow: SPECIAL PRIZES Best bird in show (Davis Cup): X. Munro.
