CROSSING PROTECTION

BUILDING OF RAMPS Press Association WELLINGTON, Friday. A deputation waited c*n the Minister of Railways, the Hon. W. A. Veitch, today, in reference to the construction of ramps at railway crossings. In replying to the deputation, the Minister stated that at present the Government was cutting out all expenditure on new works, and in the circumstances it was riot possible for him to make any promise that the erection of the ramps asked for would be proceeded with. However, a promise made by Sir Joseph Ward, tha. the Government would be willing to bear two-thirds of the cost if the local bodies would bear one-third, would be honoured.
